WW2 Era Ruptured Duck Patch US Army Short Sleeve Button up Shirt Size Small
This uniform is a U.S. Army khaki cotton twill shirt, commonly used during and after World War II. The patch on the sleeve, featuring a gold eagle inside a black and gold border, is known as the “Ruptured Duck.” This emblem was authorized for wear by recently discharged U.S. military personnel and signified that the wearer had been honorably discharged.
After World War II, many servicemen were discharged at the same time and often did not have civilian clothes to travel home in. The Ruptured Duck patch allowed them to wear their uniforms without being mistaken for active-duty personnel, signaling to military police and others that they were no longer in service and had the right to wear the uniform temporarily while transitioning back to civilian life.
This uniform was specifically used by honorably discharged U.S. military personnel to travel home after their service, particularly at the end of World War II
